In the 3rd round of the Australian Open, Gael Monfils will meet Stanislas Wawrinka. The Frenchman is ranked 12th in the ATP rankings, while his opponent is ranked 19 in the same hierarchy. The two players met three times so far. Monfiils won 2 times and the Swiss once. The first dispute between them tooked place in 2007, when Wawrinka won at New Haven - USA, 7-6, 6-4. Wawrinka defeated Teimuruz Gabashvili in the first round in three sets, and Grigor Dimitrov in the second round.
Monfils had a tough match in the company of Thiemo deBaker in the first round. Monfils claimed the victory with 3-2 after being down with sets. In the 2nd round, Monfils defeated Frederico Gil in 4 sets.
In this game I bet on Monfils, considering his morale advantage over Wawrinka, his athletics, which are perfect for the hard surface and the fact that he is a showman and loves long matches and difficult opponents like Wawrinka. Such matches brings the best of him, and when that happens..it is almost impossible to stop him.
My pick: Victory for Gael Monfils.
